The Twist is an animated short that takes a familiar tale and twists it. Produced as my graduation project from Animation and Game design studies at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt (h_da), the film accompanied my bachelor thesis, 'Unexpected Evil in Fairy Tales: Transposing the Imagery of Evil in an Animated Horror Adaptation of a Well-Known Fairy Tale'. Both the film and my thesis challenge character archetypes that are ingrained through many iterations of fairy tales, and how they influence our perception of good and evil.

As I was a team of one, I handled the entire pipeline from initial concept to finished film—working on everything from scriptwriting and storyboarding to music composition and final colour grading.

To achieve a unique look, I combined digital and analog workflows. I hand-drew characters, props, and environments on paper, and photographed each piece to create digital cutouts. Before puppeteering these cutout layers in Adobe After Effects, I blocked out initial motion timing in Adobe Animate, and finally stitched everything together with an original soundtrack in DaVinci Resolve.
