Overview

Nadas was submitted to the artist residency program Genius Loci LAB, part of the annual projection mapping festival Genius Loci Weimar. Each year, visual artists are selected to create projection mapping shows for the courtyard of Mensa am Park. Inspired by Prof. Hubert Schiefelbein’s sculpture Die Badende – Das Ei, my experimental video Nadas earned a selection for the 2018 residency, leading to a live VJ performance on the courtyard façade.

3D & Motion Design

For the video, I imported a 3D model of Die Badende – Das Ei into Autodesk Maya and created procedural animations based on its geometry. After rendering these 3D passes as PNG sequences, I imported them into After Effects to retime the motion, layer particle effects, and design the custom title sequence.

Live VJ Mapping

During the residency, I developed dynamic visuals mapped specifically to the architectural blueprints of the Mensa am Park façade. The visual motifs combined Anatolian rug patterns, procedural 3D elements, and medical scan datasets. Finalized in After Effects, the assets were encoded with GPU-accelerated video codecs (DxV) to ensure seamless, zero-latency playback in Resolume Arena during the live closing show.
